ICON Residential has been building its efforts to help strengthen its home community in Tampa. Earlier this year, team members were invited to participate in the Big Red Bus blood drive, with over 20 employees participating. In addition, as a company specializing in building homes with a home office located in close proximity to a Habitat Humanity Restore, ICON found it natural to pair with Habitat for Humanity for a build project to give back to one of the communities it serves.
Decent shelter provides the solid foundation for all of this. It’s the platform on which a family lives out today’s realities and prepares for tomorrow’s transformations. Every Habitat house changes lives: those of the families who help build them and pay an affordable mortgage or loan and all those who offer them a hand up in a time of need.
Habitat for Humanity was founded in 1976 by Millard and Linda Fuller, starting on a small farm in Georgia and expanding to areas across the world. Habitat’s goals have always been focused on providing safe and affordable housing for families with poor living conditions. With a stable living environment, Habitat helps to strengthen and empower those families to build better lives for themselves.
On April 28th, ICON gathered ten volunteer team members at the request of Habitat for Humanity to help build a home in Pinellas County. The team, made up of individuals from ICON’s accounting, purchasing, construction, home closing and warranty departments, set to work helping to install insulation to an entire home.
I am happy when I can contribute and be apart of something that makes a difference to someone. This was my first experience with volunteering with Habitat for Humanity. Our team of volunteers were led by a supervisor who gave detailed instructions about our work for the day. We hung insulation in our assigned home and assisted another team to complete the exterior painting in another. It was a great experience and knowing I contributed to someone getting a new home for their family makes me eager to sign up again. Jeanie
