Ahhhhh! Today is the first day of Spring, it started officially at 12:15 pm, but we’re here to tell you of the 4 BEST ways to celebrate the first day of Spring in the Tampa area!
#1 Take a Bike Tour or Bike To Work With Spring in the air and the weather spiking to a warm 80 degrees with an overcast, taking a bike ride can give you the best Spring-time vibes. This is also #FloridaBikeMonth so the City of Tampa and Coast Bike Share are helping residents celebrate with special bike rental rates (including some that are FREE) and a range of Bike-friendly paths! Being out in that open air is a perfect way to relieve work stress or get you a pump of energy for the day!
#2 Take a Walk Along Bayshore/Tampa’s Riverwalk Bayshore Blvd is an almost four-mile stretch of a relaxing path that also gives you the option of doing a bit of exercise at their designated stations. With the views expanded from beautiful homes to Hillsborough Bay which stretches as far as the eye can see. Once you’ve walked on Bayshore, you can head straight to the Tampa Riverwalk, passing by the beautiful University of Tampa campus, several restaurants, and even more waterfront views. The Riverwalk also features some amazing architectural arches and underpasses that offer a one-of-a-kind experience. You may even get serenaded by musicians who practice there for the acoustics.
#3 Visit Any of Tampa’s Outdoor Parks/Recreational Areas Right after the Riverwalk you can cool down at the Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park, an 8 acre outdoor park that features a unique urban design, a Great Lawn, and a wide range of outdoor entertainment. Walking through Curtis Hixon, you may see group Yoga or families playing in the park’s two interactive fountains. Tampa’s amazing parks don’t stop there, you can also visit Perry Harvey Sr. Park to view unique statues and art installations or Centennial Park in Ybor City for an art class or just to people watch.
#4 Find a Cool Place with Cool Desserts All puns intended! As we mentioned before, Tampa’s first day of Spring is warm compared to our recent weather, and what better way to celebrate the warm spring weather than a nice cold ice cream dessert. Visit Ybor City’s Snobachi for a unique custom rolled ice cream experience that is basically performance art and you can eat desserts dipped in liquid nitrogen (Dragon Breath as they call it). Indulge for a great cause downtown at Dough Nation, a dessert location that serves edible raw cookie dough, topped with 3-9 scoops of ice cream, seriously a small is enough to feed 3! Not only does Dough Nation have delicious cookie dough dessert, they also dough-nate ALL of their proceeds to feed the hungry in Tampa Bay, so you get to spring forward to give back! If you’re looking for a cooler, lighter treat, The Hyppo Gourmet Ice Pops has several locations throughout Tampa Bay, and they serve quite the variety of all natural, freshly made ice pops. From Ybor to Hyde Park, the shop features unusual ice pop flavors like Datil Honeydew, Starfruit Habanero, and Tequila Dragon Fruit that are sure to put you in the mood for spring!
